Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All Db2 11 for z/OS and Db2 12 for z/OS * * users of the LOAD utility. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * This enhancement provides a new * * keyword UPDMAXASSIGNEDVAL option on * * the LOAD utility with operands YES and * * NO, which will allow customers to * * specify whether Db2 12 should update * * MAXASSIGNEDVAL for user-provided * * identity column value input. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** With Db2 12, the LOAD utility updates the MAXASSIGNEDVAL for user-provided input. This is in contrast to Db2 11, which did not maintain MAXASSIGNEDVAL for such LOAD scenarios. Db2 12 users presently have no way to revert to the prior behavior.

Comments
A new keyword UPDMAXASSIGNEDVAL with options YES or NO will be added to the LOAD utility. This will allow users to decide whether to maintain and update the SYSIBM.SYSSEQUENCE catalog MAXASSIGNEDVAL value relating to the identity columns based on the input identity column values loaded. PH28476 introduces the following changes to externals: LOAD utility syntax diagram change: .-UPDMAXASSIGNEDVAL-YES-. >>-LOAD-----------------------------> '-UPDMAXASSIGNEDVAL-NO--' UPDMAXASSIGNEDVAL Specifies whether LOAD updates the MAXASSIGNEDVAL column in the SYSIBM.SYSSEQUENCES catalog table for identity columns. YES Specifies that LOAD updates MAXASSIGNEDVAL when the loaded value for the identity column is greater or smaller than the current value of MAXASSIGNEDVAL, depending on whether ascending or descending sequencing is in use. YES is the default. NO Specifies that LOAD does not update MAXASSIGNEDVAL regardless of the value of the loaded identity column. Special note Although you can specify this option in Db2 11, UPDMAXASSIGNEDVAL has no effect until Db2 12.
