Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users who intend to: * * - Allow Control-only Access for Guest APDED * * Crypto Domains * * - Prevent Crypto Domains from being * * allocated for APVIRT use * * - Remove Paging Packs without an IPL * * - Enable FICON Flapping Links Recovery * * - Access more detailed Host Access * * information * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY PTF * **************************************************************** With the applicable PTFs applied, z/VM will provide support for the following: Control-only Access for Guest Crypto Domains - Allows APDED virtual machines to be given control-only access to crypto domains in addition to usage+control access as is currently permitted. The new control-only designation is made per domain and applies to the domain across all APs assigned to the virtual machine. irrespective of whether usage+control access has been granted to a user. Providing control-only access for guest crypto domains enables virtual machines to submit key management requests to crypto domains for which they do not have usage+control access. CRYPTO APVIRT NONE Configuration Option - A new operand on the CRYPTO APVIRT system configuration statement is added to allow a z/VM system to IPL without reserving resources for the shared APVIRT pool. When a CRYPTO APVIRT NONE statement exists in the SYSTEM CONFIG file, z/VM will not attempt to assign crypto resources to the shared pool. This allows all crypto resources to be available for dedicated use. Remove Paging Pack without an IPL - Enables a system administrator to remove a PAGE volume on a running z/VM system without requiring an IPL. This will allow moving PAGE volumes to a new storage server without requiring a planned z/VM outage. FICON RAS - Flapping Links Facility Support - Enables the flapping links hardware facility which causes the hardware to vary offline CHPIDs which are exibiting unstable signals. These paths would otherwise produce consistent error conditions on I/O requests for related devices which would then have to be actively recovered by the system. - After the hardware for the affected CHPID is serviced, the CHPID can be varied back online to be brought back into use. FICON RAS - Expanded Host Access Information - Query DASD DETAILS output in the HOST ACCESS information section is updated to include the System and SSI name if available. - This information is registered with the associated device during device initialization by systems with this support.
