Error description

  • This is the APAR for z/VM 7.4 Feature Pack 1. As such it
    contains the following new functions:

    Two-Speed Monitoring
    -------------------------
Two-Speed Monitoring provides a mechanism for collecting z/VM
Monitor data at two different sampling rates. The underlying
requirement is to be able to allow some guests to collect
detailed data for a relatively brief period so it can be
preserved if a situation arises that requires it for analysis,
while allowing other guests to collect data less frequently and
over longer time periods for customary purposes such as
real-time monitoring or feeding the z/VM Performance Data Pump.
This avoids disrupting existing client processes that rely on
    Monitor data collection.

    TRSOURCE Subchannel Set Support
    ----------------------------------------
TRSOURCE currently supports 4-digit device addresses for IO
tracing. This item extends the support to 5-digit device
addresses, which comprise a subchannel-set (SS) number
concatenated to the left of the device address. This applies
only to real device addresses and therefore to the operand of
    the TRSOURCE command RDEV keyword.

    Two-Speed Monitoring
    --------------------

Two-Speed Monitoring provides a mechanism for collecting z/VM
Monitor data at two different sampling rates. The underlying
requirement is to be able to allow some guests to collect
detailed data for a relatively brief period so it can be
preserved if a situation arises that requires it for analysis,

This avoids disrupting existing client processes that rely on
    Monitor data collection.

A new SUBINTERVAL operand of the MONITOR SAMPLE command can be
specified to define the subinterval duration. QUERY MONITOR
reports the SUBINTERVAL value. MONWRITE accepts a new option
to enable it to collect subinterval data. See the CP Commands
and Utilities Reference for more information about these
commands and their responses. Several messages - HCP6225,
HCP6232E, HCP6255I and HCP6264I have been added or changed.
They are described in CP Messages and Codes.

    TRSOURCE IO 5-digit Device Support
    ----------------------------------

TRSOURCE currently supports 4-digit device addresses for IO
tracing. This item extends the support to 5-digit device
addresses, which comprise a subchannel-set (SS) number
concatenated to the left of the device address. This applies
only to real device addresses and therefore to the operand of
the TRSOURCE command RDEV keyword. Refer to the CP Commands and
Utilities Reference for more information about the changes to
the TRSOURCE and QUERY TRSOURCE commands.
