VM66565: FLASHCOPY VDEV DEFAULTS TO NOCOPY FOR ESE TARGETS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Attempting to clone a disk on an ESE volume using
  DirMaint CLONEDISK (non-persistent flashcopy) does not appear to
  be working. A CC of 0 from DirMaint is returned but no data is
  copied.
  When doing the copy to ESE devices, the target device took on
  the behavior of a persistent flashcopy request with NOCOPY
  specified.

  FLASHCOPY vdev commands attempting to copy data to a space
  efficient target disk were incorrectly setting the NOCOPY
  equivalent flag in their Flashcopy I/O request.  This caused
  the data to not immediately be copied to the target disk.
  
  Query VIRTUAL DETAILS and Query VIRTUAL DASD DETAILS output
  for Extent Space Efficient disks was not properly setting
  the SEF indicator.
  

Problem conclusion

• FLASHCOPY vdev commands were updated to no longer set the
  NOCOPY flag in their I/O requests when the target device is
  a space efficient disk.
  
  Query VIRTUAL DETAILS and Query VIRTUAL DASD DETAILS were
  updated to properly give the SEF indicator for all types of
  space efficient disks.
