Error description

  • Memory allocated for the subchannel ID within the SCSI-FCP
adapter driver needs to have its reserved bits explicitly
cleared for proper initialization. By not doing so, we run the
risk of having the subchannel ID corrupted before being used to
address the signal adapter instruction. This problem appears
infrequent but has recently occurred with greater regularity
particularly on the z15, with the result being a timeout of the
I/O operations necessary for bringing the associated EDEVice
    paths online

The data area constructed to store the subchannel ID within the
SCSI-FCP adapter driver is initialized incorrectly. The reserved
fields need to be explicitly set to zero, otherwise the
subchannel ID has the potential to become corrupted. If a
corrupted subchannel ID is passed to the hardware adapter during
path initialization, the associated IO command times out and
    path initialization fails.

Problem conclusion

  • Explicitly clear the reserved fields of the data area
constructed to store the subchannel ID.
