Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the z/VM Single System Image * * support * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY PTF * **************************************************************** Code in the processing routines for the QUERY and SET VMRELOCATE commands does not check the return code from HCPCFMAN when attempting to get console function mode (CFM) serialization for the target user. This can lead to the ABENDDSP001 ( DSP001 ) or ABENDASR001 ( ASR001 ) if another process is attempting to annex CFM or promote to CFM for that same user at the same time.
Problem conclusion
Add code to check the return code from HCPCFMAN in HCPRLJSV and HCPRLJQV. When a non=zero return code is returned, attempt up to seven more times to annex CFM. If CFM is not obtained after those eight tries, reject the command with return code 1831 and issue the new message HCPRLJ1831E. Here is the description of the new message which will be added to the CP Messages and Codes book (GC24-6177). HCP1831E The command could not be completed because of a temporary condition. Try again later. Explanation: Several attempts were made to process this command but a temporary condition existed that prevented it from completing. For example, the proper serialization could not be obtained. The condition should clear up after a short amount of time. System Action: Command processing terminates; system operation continues. User Response: An attempt to issue the command again in a little while should work. If the condition does not clear up after several attempts to re-issue the command, call your system support personnel. Also, in the CP Commands and Utilities Reference book (SC24-6175) add this message to the list of messages that can be issued by the QUERY and SET VMRELOCATE commands.
