Error description

  • SMAPI does not detect the situation in which a VM system is
trying to join an ensemble with an ensemble mac prefix that
matches one already in use. That is, it is not detected when a
VM system attempting to join an ensemble is a clone of another
VM system already in the cluster.

    ****************************************************************
Cloning a VM System in an Ensemble causes communication
    failures within the Ensemble.
zManager is being changed to send a command to SMAPI to
leave the ensemble if the VM system is trying to join the
ensemble with an ensemble mac prefix that matches one already in
use. This would indicate the VM system attempting to join is a
clone of another VM system already in the cluster.

Problem conclusion

  • SMAPI has been changed to perform the following steps when
the VM system is identified as a clone of another VM system
    already in the Ensemble.
    1. Execute ensemble termination for that z/VM System.
    2. Send a message to the VM System Operator that this VM system
has been identified as a Clone, and must be re-ipled to join
       the ensemble.
    3. Update the SMAPI LOG file to indicate that the VM System was
identified by zManager as a Clone.
                                                                   .
NOTE: Installations using the Unified Resource Manager for
integrated systems management of z/VM must apply bundle #25 for
driver D15 (zEC12 / zBC12). Bundle details, when available, can
be found in the 2827DEVICE or 2828DEVICE hardware PSP bucket and
also at the z/VM Unified Resource Manager web page:
