Error description
DB2 transaction logs would continue to grow. Application connections seen in the database snapshots are seen sitting idle uncommitted for an unexpected extended period of time, for example: 9 hours or more.
Local fix
Place the Commerce site offline, and perform an offline backup of the database. This will commit the transactions not yet committed.
Problem summary
USERS AFFECTED: Anyone with WebSphere Commerce 7.0 and DB2 as the database may run into the issue. PROBLEM ABSTRACT: Database transactions may be left uncommitted and not clear as to the origin of the issue. BUSINESS IMPACT: The impact could be high if the database is allowed to fill up the transaction logs, at that time the database connections will start throwing errors. Until this time there is no impact observed. RECOMMENDATION:
Problem conclusion
This fix introduces an optional instance configuration in the InstanceProperties tag of the wc-server.xml file. To cause a thread with a long running database transaction to print a stack trace to the standard error log every 1800 seconds when a Commerce EJB entity bean is loaded, specify the following tag in the InstanceProperties tag of the wc-server.xml instance configuration file: <com.ibm.commerce.base.helpers.OptCounterInfo stackTraceEverySeconds="1800" /> This does not remedy the issue, but it provides additional information needed to further the problem determination process. ------------------------------------------------------------- The latest available maintenance information can be obtained from the Recommended Fixes for WebSphere Commerce technote: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3046&uid=swg21261296
