Error description

  • In Rational Developer for i (RDI) 9.6.0.10, character values can
become corrupted when a source member in an i Project is
selected for Copy (to the clipboard), and then a remote source
physical file object in an IBM i connection is selected for
    Paste (from the clipboard.).

Characters within the source copied to the target member may be
corrupted, with their correct values being lost in translation.
This can happen with characters outside of the basic Latin set
of characters, and when the RDI workspace encoding is not set as
    UTF-8.

Local fix

  • Use an RDI workspace with the workspace encoding set to UTF-8.
Preferences > General > Workspace > "Text file encoding"

Or, Paste (the clipboard contents) into the target file
represented in an i Project, then push the change from the i
Project to the remote server. To get the target file
represented correctly in the i Project, first import an existing
member from it from the server into an i Project. This is
instead of a Paste operation directly to the remote file.
