Abstract
OpenStack VM stack deletes fail with stack_status of
"DELETE_IN_PROGRESS"
Error Description
IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack (ICM) 4.1 may fail to delete
virtual machines (VMs). The stacl delete request may fail when
removing the VM's storage. The stack delete may
report a status of "DELETE_IN_PROGRESS"
nova list will show the VM with a status of "ACTIVE" and a task
state of "deleting"
cinder list will show the volume that is to be deleted with a
status of "in-use"
compute*.log may contain a message:
ERROR nova.compute.manager ..... [instance: ....] Failed to
detach volume ..... from /dev/sdb
Problem Summary
An ICM 4.1 stack may fail to delete. The attached storage
volume may report 'in-use' and prevent the delete from
completing.
The failure is intermittent and caused by a race condition with
duplicate delete attempts.
The behavior has been corrected in the OpenStack community and
the change is included in ICM 4.1 fix pack 4.
