Abstract

OSP-OTHER-F/QSYVPHDL-T/USER-MSGCPF9872-RC2 QIMGCVTI API

Error Description

Prior to applying ptf's an application using api QimgCvtImg
worked. After the ptf's the application failed with message
CPF9872 rc2. Examination showed
feedbackStruct had a null pointer in it. Null pointers in the
feedbackstruct should always generate cpf9872 rc2.

Problem Summary

An application using QimgCvtImg API fails with MSGCPF9872 rc2.
Examination showed the API was being passed a null pointer for
the sixth parameter (feedbackStruct.)  The feedback structure is
not being used by the application and the "Space provided for
feedback structure" field (FB_len) in the control structure is
zero.

Problem Conclusion

This is a very easy error to make; the feedback structure is a
required parameter by the API even when it is not used.

To make them easier to use, QimgCvtImg and QIMGCVTI will be
changed to allow the feedback parameter to be null if the
structure's length (provided in the control structure) is 0.  If
the feedback parameter is set to an address, the pointer will
still be checked for addressing errors, such as referencing
protected storage, regardless of the length.

Temporary Fix

Comments

Circumvention

Always pass a valid pointer for the QimgCvtImg API feedback

structure.
