 APAR (Authorized Program Analysis Report)

Abstract

WMQ not allowed to participate in DB2 Nested Transaction

Error Description

When a program updates a file and that file has a trigger that
calls another program - call it PGMb, and PGMb does a MQPUT or
MQGET, this activity in not able to be included in the whole
commitment cycle of the first program.

Problem Summary

When a program updates a file and that file has a trigger that
calls another program which performs an MQPUT or MQGET, WMQ is
not allowed to register as a resource in the "nested"
transaction.

The attempt to register fails with error CPF8369 RC 2:

Message . . . . : Cannot place API commitment resource under
                  commitment control; reason code 2.
An attempt was made to place an API or a remote resource under
commitment control during a secondary logical unit of work.

Platforms affected:
iSeries

Problem Conclusion

DB2 for IBM i has provided a mechanism whereby non Savepoint
Compatible applications can register within a nested transaction
without registering as Savepoint Compatible. This mechanism is
provided via the following PTF's:
SI35194 - V5R4M0 (SE37618)
SI35195 - V6R1M0 (SE37620)

WMQ code has been changed to utilize this new option on the
QTNADDCR API so that it can register within nested transactions.
