Abstract

MQM400 LODPTF OF FIXPACK 6.0.2.2 FAILS WITH AMQ6903

Error Description

If an attempt is made to LODPTF 6.0.2.2 while the queue manager
is active, an AMQ6903 message is posted and the Load fails.
This is because FP 6.0.2.1 calls a PTF exit program during the
permanent apply process which checks to see if MQ resources are
active.
If a FP prior to 6.0.2.1 is applied, this error will not occur.

Problem Summary

LODPTF for WMQ v6.0.2.2 PTFs fails if WMQ subsystem QMQM is
active; with the following messages in the joblog

Using exit program AMQIPTFX.1.6 for product 5724H72 and PTF
SI27144
Subsystem name QMQM active.
Exit program failed and permanent changes have been made.
PTF 5724H72-SI27144 not applied.

Users affected: All WMQ v6.0.2.1 users on iSeries Platform who
attempts to load future WMQ FP/RP PTFs while QMQM subsystem is
active.

Platforms affected: iSeries

During LODPTF with SPRPTF(*APYPERM) the previous PTFs, if
temporarily applied, becomes permanently applied.
There was an erroneous check in the PTF exit code path, which
checks for the QMQM subsystem being active and prevented the
previous PTFs in temporary applied state to become permanently
applied, leading to the LODPTF failure.

Problem Conclusion

Code changes were carried out in order to remove the check and
to allow the PTF load to take place even when the QMQM
subsystem is active.

Users with WMQ v6.0.2.1 currently applied temporarily on their
system will have to end all WMQ queue managers fully and stop
the QMQM subsystem before loading the PTFs for subsequent WMQ
FP/RP on v6.

This fix when applied will ensure that users with WMQ PTFs
applied temporarily will be able to load the PTFs when QMQM
subsystem is active.

Users with a service level earlier than v6.0.2.1 will be able
to use LODPTF for subsequents levels of WMQ FP/RP with SPRPTF
(*APYPERM) without experiencing this problem.
