Error description

  • A performance improvement for HPFP Reorganization for both
    elapsed time and CPU time.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of High Performance Fast Path *
    *                 Reorganization Tool Version 2 Release 1.     *
    *                 (FMID: H31A210)                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: HPFP Reorganization should improve *
    * performance for elapsed time, CPUTIME *
    * of unload function and reload function. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the maintenance for this APAR. *
    ****************************************************************
Compared with the equivalent unload function and reload function
of Fast Path Basic tools Version 2 Release 1, the improvement
in performance was required. Elapsed time and CPUTIME are
    longer.

Temporary fix

Comments

  • The following correspondences were performed in order to solve
    a performance issue.
    1.Eliminate redundancy statements and processes.
     - Only the necessary work fields of each module are
       initialized.
     - Efficient use of MVCL and a MVC statement is performed.
2.Review of the input and output processing to unloaded
segment record data set and VSAM area data set.
     - WAIT time of input and output is reduced by preparing 2 UOW
buffers in address space, and performing parallel reading
       and writing for RAP processing.
     - By setting BUFNO to 40, the input and output processing
of unloaded segment records data set is performed
       efficiently.
( The improvement for unload function. )
       - When it is DB without the definition of SDEP, or SDEP=NO,
reading of a SDEP part is eliminated.
         EXCP is reduced.
       - Reading of the SDEP part to data space is carried out only
within the limits of LE/LB, and EXCP is reduced.
       - CPUTIME is decreased by outputting to direct unloaded
segment records data set from the input thread task.
The process is performed under the following all
         conditions.
a.SORT=NO (default) is specified in HFPSYSIN.
b.Randomizer is not called for unload process.
c.Only unloaded segment record of one area is contained
in unloaded segment records data set.
New message HFPV0004I is introduced for usability.
     - When HPFP reorganization can not acquire an IOVF and/or an
SDEP part into data space as the work area, it shows the
message HFPV0004I to inform to have used ADS directly.

    ========================
The IMS High Performance Fast Path Utilities for z/OS User's
Guide Volume 1: High Performance Fast Path Reorganization
Tool Version 2 Release 1 (SC18-7615-00) should be changed as
    follows:

    Appendix.E.3.12 Area I/O process
The following description should be added to the message.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
HFPV0004I xxxx PART COULD NOT BE PRELOADED INTO A DATA SPACE FOR
               PROCESSING IN keyword=YES.
              - AREA NO: nn, AREANAME: areaname
Explanation: Program HFPMAIN0 uses a VSAM area data set for
xxxx (IOVF or SDEP) as the work area even if keyword
(ICACHE or OCACHE)=YES is specified because the work
area can not be acquired into data space.
System Action: Processing is continued not using data space
but using VSAM area data set for an IOVF and/or a
              SDEP part.
    Programmer Response: None.
