Error description

  • This APAR provides a functional enhancement for HP Unload
    to set the AMP parameters that specify the number of
    buffers for a VSAM KSDS.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM IMS High Performance *
    *                 Unload for OS/390 Release 1 (FMID=H1IN110).  *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: This APAR enables IMS High Perfoemance *
    *                      Unload for OS/390 Release 1 to set      *
    * the buffer numbers for VSAM KSDS *
    *                      internally.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the maintenance for this APAR. *
    ****************************************************************
    This APAR enables the HSSR Engine to set the buffer numbers
    for VSAM KSDS cluster as follows:
       BUFNI = Number of levels
       BUFND = One-fifth of the number of CIs per CA
    BUFNI is used for the index component and BUFND is used for
    the data component.

    When the buffer numbers are specified by the AMP parameter
    on the JCL DD statement, the specified numbers are used.

    = DOCUMENTATION CHANGE =
    ========================
    IMS High Performance Unload for OS/390 User's Guide
    (SC27093602) should be changed as follows:

    2.0        Customization and Diagnosis
    2.1        Tuning Buffer Handlers
    2.1.3      Buffering KSDS
    2.1.3.1    "Native" VSAM
    2.1.3.1.1 Specifying and Tuning the Number of Buffers

     The number of buffers for the processing of the index and data
     components of the KSDS cluster can be specified separately
     on the JCL DD statement.

     The DD statement should be coded as follows:
        //KSDS  DD  DSN=IMSVS.VSAM,DISP=SHR,
        //          AMP=('BUFND=8,BUFNI=4')
     BUFND is used to specify the buffer number for the data
     component and BUFNI for the index component of the KSDS
     cluster.
    |If the AMP parameter is not coded, the HSSR Engine
    |set the numbers of buffers for NSR as follows:
    | BUFNI = Number of levels
    | BUFND = One-fifth of the number of CIs per CA
