PQ73396: SSL -101 ERROR CODE RETURNED WITH HTTPD SERVER

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The problem is related to the use of scalable mode and the way a
  thread in the HTTP Server services any given socket, moving the
  socket around from thread to thread. It opened the socket as a
  non-SSL socket, but later thought it was an SSL socket, because
  it looked at the wrong place to figure out the type. That caused
  the SSL code to return the -101 code. This has caused
  a significant performance problem in the HTTP Server.

  Customers who use scalable mode, a mix of nonSSL and SSL
  connections, and persistence may notice very long response
  times on some requests, and possibly messages about errors
  while writing to the client ("IMW0405E Internal I/O error").
  If the customer turns on trace (-debug tcp), there will be
  a trace line similar to:
  "level3write...SSL write ... status=-101".
  

Problem conclusion

• The HTTP Server is modified to correct a problem in which it
  attempted to use SSL to write to a nonSSL socket.
