Error description

  • JCL errors can occur in various utility jobs when more than 99
    jobsteps cause generated stepname to exceed 8 characters.
    .
    The following JCL skeletons illustrate reported problems:
      Member: ADB2UTU
        //DELETE&UNLSN   EXEC PGM=IEFBR14
        //UNLOAD&UNLSN  EXEC PGM=IKJEFT01,DYNAMNBR=100
      Member: ADB2UTUL
        //DELETE&UNLSN  EXEC PGM=IEFBR14
        //UNLOAD&UNLSN EXEC DSNUPROC,SYSTEM=&DB2SYS,
      Member: ADB2USU1
        //DELETE&V     EXEC PGM=IEFBR14
        //UNLD&V EXEC DSNUPROC,SYSTEM=&DB2SYS,
    .
    The last line, above, will NOT generate an invalid stepname. It
    is included to illustrate how these user-modified JCL skeleton
    files can be changed to avoid a generated stepname that exceeds
    8 characters when more than 99 jobsteps are generated by the DB2
    Admin Tool.

Local fix

  • Edit / Modify JCL skeletons as needed. Use the following
    example, as noted in the apar description:
        //UNLD&V EXEC DSNUPROC,SYSTEM=&DB2SYS,

    ****************************************************************
    The errors occur in various utility jobs when more than 99
    jobsteps cause generated stepname to exceed 8 characters.
    Members ADB2UTU, ADB2UTUL and ADB2USU1 in the skeleton library
    are reported to show this problem.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem of generated stepnames being too long when more than
    99 jobsteps have been exceeded is currently fixed in skeleton
    members ADB2UTU, ADB2UTUL and ADB2USU1 by eliminating one
    character from the constant part of the stepname to allow one
    more digit. The new limit for the digit part of the stepname is
    999.
