PQ42973: ABEND WITHIN LOAD MODULE ASMA93 AT CSECT ASMA00+X'7D8' DUE TO CLI INSTRUCTION WITH INCORRECT ADDRESS IN R15

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When HLASM options are supplied via ddname ASMAOPT which refers
  to a sequential dataset, then ABENDS0C4 occurs in ASMA93 at
  offset 7D8 into csect ASMA00.
  

Local fix

• Circumvention is to use PDS member to specify assembly options
  via ddname ASMAOPT.

  1. If the ASMAOPT DD statement refers to a sequential dataset,
     then an ABEND S0C4 occurs at offset x'7D8' within csect
     ASMA00 in module ASMA93. The failing machine instruction is
     9540F000 (CLI) caused by an incorrect value in Register 15.
  2. If an option provided in the ASMAOPT file is also provided on
     invocation or via the *PROCESS statement, then ASMA436N or
     ASMA437N or ASMA438N or ASMA439N is incorrectly issued when
     the values are identical.

Problem conclusion

• The High Level Assembler has been modified to:
  1a. Process ASMAOPT options when the ASMAOPT DD statement refers
      to a sequential dataset.
  1b. Issue new MSGASMA443N whenever ASMAOPT DD refers to a file
      with a record format of Undefined-length (ie. RECFM is U):
        "ASMA443N ASMAOPT record format invalid - options
                             provided via ASMAOPT ignored"
  2.  Only issue message ASMA436N ASMA437N ASMA438N or ASMA439N
      if the overriding options are different to those specified
      via the ASMAOPT file.
