Error description

  • Trying to set values not supported by the DataView component
may cause that the viewer becomes unusable. The viewer issues
an error message for each value not supported but it does not
check if the user saves this value in its current 'Preferences'.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
That means, any user can customize the DataView components with
preferred settings. Settings specified are immediately applied,
but they are not saved when DataView is closed. To save values
as a graphical settings for future use 'Preferences' has to be
saved too. Settings resulting in error messages MUST not be
saved because such settings may cause that the viewer becomes
    unusable.
For example, trying to change the buffer size to a value bigger
then 500 results in an error message window with information
about the error. So it ought to be enough to change the wrong
value with a right one. If instead the invalid value wasn't
corrected and the "Preferences" are saved then the viewer
    becomes unusable.
That behavior is part of the current Viewer GUI design and will
not be changed because a error message is displayed. Therefore,
the user has not to save the preferences set, but leaving the
default value or change his settings back.

Local fix

  • To solve this problem without re-installing Viewer, delete the
file DVSettingsList.ser which was created under the directory
where the Viewer has been installed (the same of run_viewer.cmd
file). In this way, running Viewer again, a new settings file is
created with the default settings, and DataView is displayed.
