PN79317: AE PN78855 FIX COMPLETION. LOOP ON TEST AND SET INSTRUCTION (TS) IN MVPCLOSE, MVPOPEN, EZAMVATN, POSSIBLE DISABLED SPIN LOOP

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Loop on test and set instruction (TS) in module MVPOPEN,
  MVPCLOSE or EZAMVATN.  UCBCTCWA (UCB+20)  contains x'ff'.
  This loop is usually when TCPIP is started or stopped.
  ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS: ABEND0C1, ABEND0C4, IECVPST,
  Disabled Spin Loop (msgIEE178I, IEE178I), Wait State 14
  (WAIT014) if an MVS required PTF (APAR OW13795) is missing.
  Please see PTF UN86119 for the required IFREQ statement.
  System appears hung (hang). ABEND0F8 RC04 . There is a wild
  branch into IEEVTXR by EZAMVATN which causes the abend above.
  

Local fix

• With PTF UN83136 applied.

  *                      unsolicited I/O interruption.  The loop *
  *                      may occur in MVPOPEN, MVPCLOSE, or      *
  *                      EZAMVATN.                               *

  The mechanism for routing unsolicited interruptions to the
  appropriate stack has be reworked such that serialization is not
  needed.  The serialization code introduced by PN75274 (and that
  causes this loop) has therefore been removed.
  

Problem conclusion

• UN83136
  Window conditions existed where a lockword used in the
  processing of unsolicited interruptions on CTC-class devices was
  not cleared after use by MVPOPEN, MVPCLOSE, or EZAMVATN.  The
  unsolicited attention module (EZAMVATN) has been reworked such
  that this serialization is no longer required, and this
  serialization code has been removed.
