PN72314: DVG061I ACF/VTAM OPEN ERROR FOR LOGICAL UNIT XXXXX: ACB ERROR DVG061I CODE = 24

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• With Netview/FTP V2R2, customer experienced a VTAM OPEN ACB
  Failure code=24 when using VTAM PRTCT=password.
  A Vtam Internal trace showed an OCRU containing at
  displacement x'6' the application name which was OK but
  displacement x'E' contained an invalid password.
  

Local fix

• Bypass: - remove PRTCT parm from VTAM APPL statement
  

Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED: All NetView FTP users.                       *

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The  NetView  FTP MVS 220 or 221 server *
  *                      can't  be  started  when  the  PRTCT  = *
  *                      password  parameter is used in the VTAM *
  *                      APPL definition of server due to a VTAM *
  *                      OPEN ACB failure. The following NetView *
  *                      FTP  messages  are  found in the server *
  *                      log:  DVG061I  ACF/VTAM  OPEN ERROR FOR *
  *                      LOGICAL UNIT lu_name : ACB ERROR CODE = *
  *                      24.   The  VTAM  password  LU  name  of *
  *                      NetView  FTP server is also readable in *
  *                      the server log.                         *

  * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY THE PTF FIXING THIS APAR               *
  ****************************************************************
  VTAM  ACB  OPEN  error at NetView MVS 220 or 221 Server startup.

Problem conclusion

• The  problem  is  solved.  The  VTAM  LU  name  password was not
  processed correctly during initialization phase.
