PN71477: SMF RECORDING FOR NETVIEW FTP MVS 221 SERVER IS INCORRECT

Error description

• NetView FTP 221 MVS server is always writing an SMF record
  to SMF dataset even if no SMF record number has been specified
  in the server initialization parameter file.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The   receiving  NetView  FTP  MVS  221 *
  *                      server  tries  to  write  an SMF record *
  *                      even  if  the  SMFREC parameter has not *
  *                      been   specified   in   the   list   of *
  *                      initialization  parameters.  The number *
  *                      of  the  SMF  record that is written is *
  *                      equal  to  0.  The  cause of this wrong *
  *                      processing   is  unpredictable  and  is *
  *                      system  dependant.  Commonly  an x'0C4' *
  *                      abend   in   module  DVGMSFT  could  be *
  *                      issued.                                 *

  * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY THE PTF FIXING THIS APAR               *
  ****************************************************************
  The  NetView  FTP  MVS 221 receiving server always writes an SMF
  record  with  record  number 0 even if the SMFREC initialization
  parameter has not been used.
  

Problem conclusion

• The problem has been solved. The NetView FTP MVS 221 server will
  now  check  if  a  value  has been specified for the SMFREC init
  parameters before attempting to write the SMF record. If the SMF
  writing will fail message DVG481I will be issued.
