Problem conclusion
The problem resulted because the Selector considered IMS log records that are of no direct importance during the gathering of IMS changed data. The possibility for this problem to occur was allowed a result of changes made to the Selector to satisfy earlier Selector APAR PM83491. Maintenance associated with earlier Selector APAR PM83491 (PTF UK92713) allowed the leading edge processing time for the Selector to be moved forward, even when no records of interest to the Selector where encountered during a particular Selector run. In order to satisfy the requirements of APAR PM83491, the Selector may consider IMS log records that have no direct relation to the capture of IMS changed data. The problem will not occur when the Selector is processing data from a single IMS subsystem. The problem will also not occur when the Selector uses the IMS log subset CDSDS for processing input, regardless if processing logs from a single IMS subsystem or when merging IMS log data from multiple IMS subsystems. Stated differently, the problem may only occur when the Selector processes complete IMS logs (not CDCDS) from multiple IMS subsystems. In the revised code of the new fix for APAR PM98181, we continue to maintain the leading edge time stamp in order to continue to allow for resolution of prior APAR PM83491. However, only time stamps from records of interest to IMS change data capture processing and not other IMS log records will be considered when merging IMS replication log data, thus avoiding the reported problem.
