APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
PM29185 covers the "loadClass" calls, but SLF4J code also performs "getResources" which are not blocked, causing further error messages: "SystemErr R SLF4J: Class path contains multiple SLF4J bindings."
Local fix
Error messages can be ignored, as they won't impede functionality at runtime.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server packaging the SLF4J logging * * framework in their applications * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Warning messages are emitted by the * * SLf4J framework for classes * * inaccessible to the application * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The SLF4J logging framework contains a mechanism to check for duplicate versions of itself, utilizing a getResources call against one of its classes. WebSphere Application Server packages SLF4J, providing a filtering mechanism to prevent applications from accessing it via loadClass calls, but it does not prevent the getResources call made in this check. This can result in a warning message being emitted by SLF4J even in instances in which the application correctly packages it.
Problem conclusion
Logic was added to filter the SLF4J getResources calls, similar to the paradigm used for loadClass calls. Note that if there are multiple non-WAS SLF4J versions packaged in application-visible class loaders, the message will still be emitted. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.0.0.9 and 8.5.5.3.
