APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When the QMGR restarts after an unclean shutdown, it runs
    recovery processing to rebuild the current status.
    For shared queue work, this requires building IUWD/IUWE blocks
    for all items since the last checkpoint in one go. If there are
    too many items, the buffer pool fills up and the queue manager
    runs out of storage. Thus recovery cannot be completed.
    As this occurs during recovery processing, the queue manager
    abends for data integrity purposes.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: During queue manager restart, abend *
    * 5C6-00E20004 is issued and the queue *
    *                      manager terminates.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    If the queue manager did not complete the shut-down checkpoint
    previously, recovery work is required during startup.
    For shared queue work, all IUWD and eUOWD blocks needs to be
    read into memory for recovery processing to take place.
    If too many entries need to be loaded, the queue manager runs
    out of storage and abends.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was changed to load the eUOWD blocks into storage
    above the bar, thus increasing the amount of shared work that
    can be read by a significant amount.
    This function is unlocked by a service parm which should only
    be used under guidance of IBM support.
