Error description

  • During CHINIT startup, a certain amount of topics are being
    opened, and handles are created. In this case, the
    SYSTEM.BROKER.DEFAULT.STREAM topic is being opened. The MHND
    is initialised during open processing by CSQMOPEN, and the
    fTopicHandle flag is set on before the publication handle has
    been set up (before the call to kqiTopicRegisterPublisher
    completes).
    A DISPLAY CONN TYPE(HANDLE) command is being issued, and finds
    the handle for the SYSTEM.BROKER.DEFAULT.STREAM just created,
    and tries to access the publication information. As this is not
    yet set, the storage CSQMDCOH is looking at is random, and
    fails with an 0C4.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An 0C4 abend is issued in the master *
    * address space when issuing a DISPLAY *
    *                      CONN command with TYPE(HANDLE).         *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The DISPLAY CONN command will iterate over the existing handles,
    and call CSQMDCOH to process each of them and create the
    response information.
    If a topic is being opened at the same time, and the handle has
    been allocated, but not yet fully initialised, the object will
    be on the handle chain with the fTopicHandle flag set, but the
    pPubHndl pointer still set to 0.
    CSQMDCOH will try and access the publication entry block
    pointed to by pPubHndl, leading it to access low core, causing
    the 0C4 abend.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was changed to ignore topic handles that have not been
    completely initialised when the DISPLAY CONN command is issued,
    preventing the 0C4 abend from occurring.
