PM87007: RECOVER DSN: CA-SORT AND SYNCSORT COMPATIBILITY

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• This fix primarily impacts customers that have CA-SORT installed
  and enables internal SORT compatibility due to slight
  differences between three major sort products.
  .
  This fix also introduces the LOGICAL keyword, which is to
  remain as an undocumented option at this time. If LOGICAL is
  specified for RECOVER DSN in conjunction with a PHYSICAL
  backup created for KSDS data sets, the recovery process for
  those data set types is likely to fail during the load phase.
  This is because the LOGICAL keyword will cause RECOVER to
  bypass invoking SORT prior to writing the records to VSAM,
  and the records can be out of key sequence. Valid use of the
  LOGICAL keyword is particularly relevant for Syncsort
  customers recovering extremely large KSDS clusters due to the
  SORT bypass.

  Currently, the backup file does not provide indication that a
  data set was backed up in LOGICAL or PHYSICAL modes, so a
  safeguard mechanism is not possible at this time. If the
  original KSDS was actively RLS or was SMS-compressed, then
  a LOGICAL backup would have already been automatically
  mandated, and therefore a LOGICAL recovery should be safe
  and efficient in those particular cases.
