Error description

  • PLI compiler message IBM1678I occurs when using include members
    CMQP and CMQXP.

    Message   Message Description
    IBM1678I Assignment of POINTER to FIXED BIN is invalid.

    The program compiles ok when we use the V6 include members. We
    get two messages IBM1678I when we use the V701 include members.

    The problem is that structure fields like securityparmsptr have
    changed from pointer to fixed bin(31). If the fixed bin field
    will be changed to a pointer field then MSGIBM1678I does not
    occur.

Local fix

  • use V6 include members from SCSQPLIC.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When compiling a PL/I application       *
    * program that uses the WebSphere MQ *
    *                      copybooks, the PL/I compiler may        *
    *                      issue warning IBM1678I.                 *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Certain MQ control block fields that may contain pointers are
    incorrectly defined as having the type "fixed binary(31)" rather
    than "pointer".

    When compiling a PL/I program that assigns a pointer to any of
    these fields, the compiler may emit the following warning:

    IBM1678I Assignment of POINTER to FIXED BIN is invalid.

Problem conclusion

  • The affected pointer fields have had their type corrected.
