Error description

  • An environment has TCPKEEP (YES) in the QMGR definition and a
SVRCONN with HBINT (300) and KAINT (360). When the client
channel starts, the CHSTATUS in the CSQOREXX panels shows a 0
value for Keep Alive Interval rather than the specified
integer. MQSC commands and the MQ Explorer also show the zero
value. A WMQ 7.0.1 queue manager correctly displays the Keep
Alive Interval in the channel status.
    .
    Additional symptoms:
Technote 1566516 advises having the keepalive interval set
less than the timeout interval on a firewall. Due to the error
described in this APAR, the keepalive packets will not be sent
for 2 hours by default, by which time a firewall may have
timed out the connection. CSQX259E results.
    .
If the SVRCONN has SHARECNV>0, heartbeat packets could keep
the firewall from timing out the channel.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The KAINT attribute may not be set *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When specifying a KAINT channel attribute for SVRCONN channels,
or using the AUTO option, the KeepAlive interval value may not
take effect at channel start time as intended.

Issuing a DISPLAY CHSTATUS command for an active SVRCONN may
show that the effective value for the active channel is 0.

Problem conclusion

  • Processing has been amended to ensure that the KAINT channel
attribute is set correctly for SVRCONN channels.
