  • DB2 Object Compare Tool for z/OS builds DROP / CREATE in APPLY
    job, when ALTER TABLE could be used to change COLUMN from
    BLOB (1 M) to BLOB (2 M).

    *                 Compare function to increase the length of   *
    *                 a LOB column on DB2 10 New Function Mode     *
    *                 (NFM).                                       *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DB2 Object Compare builds DROP/CREATE   *
    *                      statements instead of ALTER statements  *
    *                      in the APPLY job when the change to be  *
    *                      implemented is to increase the maximum  *
    *                      length of a LOB column.  Starting with  *
    *                      DB2 10 NFM this type of change can be   *
    *                      performed using the following ALTER     *
    *                      statement:                              *
    *                                                              *
    *                      ALTER TABLE >table_name<                *
    *                      ALTER COLUMN >lobcol_name<              *
    *                      SET DATA TYPE >lob_datatype<            *

    DB2 Object Compare builds DROP/CREATE statements instead of
    ALTER statements in the APPLY job when the change to be
    implemented is to increase the maximum length of a LOB column.
    Starting with DB2 10 NFM this type of change can be performed
    using the following ALTER statement:
    
    ALTER TABLE >table_name<
    ALTER COLUMN >lobcol_name<
    SET DATA TYPE >lob_datatype<
