Problem summary

  • USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 users.

  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Added 1MB pageable support to exploit
                       zEC12 and Flash Express hardware
                       features.

  RECOMMENDATION:

With zEC12 and Flash Express installed, DB2 will exploit the
Large Page support by allocating internal control blocks (PMBs
using 1MB pageable storage. These large pages may be paged to
and from Flash Express and performance may be improved due to a
reduction in TLB misses and an increase in TLB hit rate.

Problem conclusion

  • In order for DB2 to use 1MB pageable Large Page hardware
features, all of the following must be true:

- zEC12 (2827
- Flash Express
- z/OS V1R13 and above with requisite PTFs (FMID JBB778H
