Error description

  • The following message is observed when making binary mode
transfers to or from an agent which uses a WebSphere MQ v6
z/OS queue manager as its agent queue manager:

BFGIO0178E: A QUEUE WRITE FAILED DUE TO A WMQAPIEXCEPTION WITH
    MESSAGE TEXT CC=2 RC=2142 MQRC_HEADER_ERROR

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
All users of WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition Version 7.0.4
using agents which communicate with WebSphere MQ v6 z/OS queue
    managers.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
In binary mode transfers, messages places onto the WMQ queues of
the agent queue manager which represent the bytes of the files
being transferred incorrectly specified a CCSID of
    MQCCSI_UNDEFINED within the RFH2.

WMQ documentation indicates that MQCCSI_UNDEFINED is not a valid
value for the CCSID of an RFH2. The z/OS v6 queue manager checks
this field to ensure it contains a valid value. Because
MQCCSI_UNDEFINED is not valid MQRC_HEADER_ERROR is returned when
the agent attempts to perform an MQPUT. This prevents the
transfer from proceeding and the WMQFTE reason BFGIO0178E is
    given.

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been altered to use a value of MQCCSI_INHERIT for
the CCSID within the RFH2 of the messages used for binary mode
transfers. MQCCSI_INHERIT is a valid value, so it accepted by
the queue manager and the transfer can complete normally.
