Error description

  • DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS generated UNLOAD LOB using PDSE
results in long execution times as compared with UNLOAD to VBS
    PS in DB2 V10 NFM

Local fix

  • Modify control card manually to unloaad to VBS PS by adding :
    .
    SHRLEVEL REFERENCE NOPAD SPANNED YES
    .
to the UNLOAD statement generated by the Tool

    ****************************************************************
DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS Catalog Copy should support
UNLOAD LOB (except LOB in SYSIBM.SYSJAVA) to Variable Block
Spanned (VBS) PS in DB2 10 NFM.

SYSIBM.SYSJAVA contains more than one table, and Catalog
Copy unloads data at the tablespace level, which means
unloading all the tables in SYSIBM.SYSJAVA, as a result the
LOB column will not be at the end of the unload record, which
will cause the unload to VBS PS data set to fail with the
    following error:

    DSNU1233I #SSID- 261
DSNUULVA - DATA IS TOO LONG FOR
    FIELD JAR_DATA, TABLE SYSIBM.SYSJAROBJECTS
DSNU1219I #SSID- THE NUMBER OF RECORDS IN
    ERROR REACHED THE LIMIT 1

Problem conclusion

  • Problem has been resolved so that when a tablespace contains
only one DB2 catalog table and this table has one or more LOB
columns, Catalog Copy will UNLOAD the LOB to the VBS data sets
and then LOAD the columns into the user defined catalog tables.
