Error description
Problem Description: -------------------- Customer installed 8.0.0.3 on IBM Http Server v8.0.0.2, then noticed the config admin.passwd file was reset to file size of 0. Customer had to recreate the password in the file. The password file should be marked as unserviceable instead of resetting the password. Environment: ----------- IBM HTTP Server 8.0.0.2 64bits WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment edition V8.0.0.2 or higher Linux 6.2
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM HTTP Server for WebSphere * * Application Server V8R0, V8R0. V7R0 for * * Microsoft Windows is also affected at the * * 7.0.0.25 level only. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The config admin.passwd file is over * * written after installing a fix pack. * * On Microsoft Windows/7.0.0.25, * * admin.passwd is deleted. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The config admin.passwd file is not marked as an unserviceable file and it is overwritten after installing a fix pack. In 7.0.0.25 on Microsoft Windows, the admin.passwd was never shipped after 7.0.0.0 but inadvertently deleted, causing Update Installer (UPDI) to delete the corresponding file.
Problem conclusion
The config admin.passwd file will be marked as an unserviceable file in 8.0.0.5 fix pack. The contents of the file will be saved and will not be overwritten by installing the next fix pack. For 7.0.0.27 on Microsoft Windows, The zero byte conf/admin.passwd originally shipped in 7.0.0.0 is retained in the build which causes UPDI to consider it unchanged and leave it alone in the filesystem. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.27, 8.0.0.5 and 8.5.0.1.
