The customer reported system panics when doing lookups on
    files with view-extended pathnames.

Problem conclusion

  • Examination of the dumps provided indicated that the panics
occurred in portions of the kernel not directly related to
the mvfs. When the customer upgraded their OS to a later
set of bug fixes, they stopped encountering the panics.
This appears to have been a defect in SUSE Linux itself
which has been fixed by Novell.

Temporary fix
