Error description
DB2 Object Compare Tool for z/OS does not always use TEMPLATE definitions from ADB25TU3 even though ADBH5TU says: "SPECIFY WHICH TEMPLATE WILL BE USED" . Problem persists even after apar pm25830 / ptf uk69177 is applied to ra10 level of Object Compare Tool. Problem can lead to duplicate dataset names generated in jobstream.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the DB2 Object Comparison Tool for * * z/OS. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: This APAR enables, consolidates and * * cleans up template options and usage * * across the change functions. Note * * that generally speaking this * * functionality is only being * * implemented for the change flows (i.e. * * ALT, Compare and Change Management * * (CM), but not CM Batch). The summary * * of changes are as follows: * * * * - Eliminate the Object Compare, * * Redefine Table Space (RDEF) and * * Restore (RES) template types on * * panel ADB25TU3 'Specify UTILITY * * TEMPLATE Usage'. * * * * - Change the ALT template type to * * CHG * * * * - Add three new symbolics for use in * * template DSN names. These new * * symbolics are &PREFIX, &LEVEL and * * &TNAME. Note that these symbolics * * are only valid in the context of * * change flows (i.e. &PREFIX is only * * valid for the change flows ALT, OC * * and CM). If a particular symbolic * * is not relevant, it will resolve * * as a literal (e.g. &PREFIX will * * resolve PREFIX). These symbolics * * will resolve to the following * * values when used in the change * * flows: * * * * &PREFIX will resolve to the data * * set prefix entered * * &LEVEL will resolve to the * * worklist name (or middle * * qualifier) * * &TNAME will resolve to our * * internally generated table * * numbering system (e.g. T0001) * * * * - Enable subscripting fully in * * template DSN names (e.g. * * &TS(3,3) will produce a value * * starting in the 3rd position * * for a length of 3 bytes). Note * * that you can use subscripting * * even on the new symbolics. * * * * - Propagate template metrics (i.e. * * space, DSN and all user-specified * * options) to the DD or template as * * applicable. Note that DISP and * * MODELDCB are not propagated as * * we need to maintain control of * * these options. * * * * - Template options will be put onto * * both DD and/or template statements * * * * For full documentation refer to * * Chapter 11 of the DB2 Administration * * Tool User's Guide and Reference. * * * * Note that if you encounter problems * * with the new template functionality * * you can turn off this function by * * indicating 'Generate Templates NO'. * * This will turn off this functionality * * and revert to normal product generated * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** This APAR enables, consolidates and cleans up template options and usage across the change functions. Note that generally speaking this functionality is only being implemented for the change flows (i.e. ALT, Compare and Change Management (CM), but not CM Batch). The summary of changes are as follows: - Eliminate the Object Compare, Redefine Table Space (RDEF) and Restore (RES) template types on panel ADB25TU3 'Specify UTILITY TEMPLATE Usage'. - Change the ALT template type to CHG - Add three new symbolics for use in template DSN names. These new symbolics are &PREFIX, &LEVEL and &TNAME. Note that these symbolics are only valid in the context of change flows (i.e. &PREFIX is only valid for the change flows ALT, OC and CM). If a particular symbolic is not relevant, it will resolve as a literal (e.g. &PREFIX will resolve PREFIX). These symbolics will resolve to the following values when used in the change flows: &PREFIX will resolve to the data set prefix entered &LEVEL will resolve to the worklist name (or middle qualifier) &TNAME will resolve to our internally generated table numbering system (e.g. T0001) - Enable subscripting fully in template DSN names (e.g. &TS(3,3) will produce a value starting in the 3rd position for a length of 3 bytes). Note that you can use subscripting even on the new symbolics. - Propagate template metrics (i.e. space, DSN and all user-specified options) to the DD or template as applicable. Note that DISP and MODELDCB are not propagated as we need to maintain control of these options. - Template options will be put onto both DD and/or template statements as applicable. For full documentation refer to Chapter 11 of the DB2 Administration Tool User's Guide and Reference. Note that if you encounter problems with the new template functionality you can turn off this function by indicating 'Generate Templates NO'. This will turn off this functionality and revert to normal product generated and ADB2UCUS names.
Problem conclusion
The new functionality has been implemented.
