Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the DB2 Object Comparison Tool and *
    *                 DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS.            *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Currently we run REORG and REBUILD *
    * utilities in an automatic fashion for *
    * objects in the following pending *
    * states: AREO*, AREOR, REORP, ARBDP, *
    * RBDP, RBDP* and PSRBD. The objects *
    * that are in advisory pending states *
    * (AREO*, AREOR, ARBDP) will have *
    * automatically generated REORG and *
    * REBUILD generated and run for objects *
    * in these states if the user requests *
    *                      them using the                          *
    *                      ADVISORYAUTOREORG=YES and               *
    *                      ADVISORYAUTOREBUILD=YES parameters.     *
    * The automatic utilities for these *
    * states can be turned off if the *
    * parameters are not passed or if they *
    * are set to NO. Currently, we also *
    * generate and run automatic utilities *
    * for objects in the following pending *
    * states: REORP, RBDP, RBDP* and *
    * PSRBD, but the user cannot turn them *
    *                      off.                                    *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Control to prevent execution of auto REORG and REBUILD is
    missing and needs to be added similar to how control is
    present for auto advisory REORG and REBUILD. Two new
    parameters are added AUTOREORG=YES/NO and AUTOREBUILD=YES/NO.
    If these parameters are excluded, the default for each of
    these parameters is YES which is different than the default
    for the ADVISORYAUTOREORG and ADVISORYAUTOREBUILD parameters.

Problem conclusion

  • Two new parameters have been added to panel ADB2UPA 'Batch
    Job Utility Parameters' and these settings will be passed to
    ADBTEP2 jobs if they are set to 'No'. The default if these
    parameters are missing is 'Yes'. Control is given to each of
    the two types of utilities: auto REORG and auto REBUILD.

    The definition for each of the two CM batch parameters below
    has been updated:

    Advisory auto REBUILD (adbtep2_advisoryautorebuild parameter).
    The adbtep2_advisoryautorebuild parameter specifies whether the
    product, when a change is run, should initiate a REBUILD when
    an object is in certain rebuild pending states. For the
    complete description and list of values see 'Chapter 15. Using
    the Batch Restart programs: ADBTEP2 and ADBTEPA' in the
    DB2 Administration Tool User's Guide.

    Values: YES, NO
    Default: NO

    YES
    The product automatically attempts a REBUILD if the object is
    in the ARBDP state.

    NO
    The product does not automatically attempt a REBUILD if the
    object is in the ARBDP state.

    Advisory auto REORG (adbtep2_advisoryautoreorg parameter)
    The adbtep2_advisoryautoreorg parameter specifies whether the
    product, when a change is run, should initiate a REORG when an
    object is in certain reorg pending states. For the complete
    description and list of values see 'Chapter 15. Using the
    Batch Restart programs: ADBTEP2 and ADBTEPA' in the
    DB2 Administration Tool User's Guide.

    Values: YES, NO
    Default: NO

    YES
    The product automatically attempts a REORG if the object is
    in one of these states: AREOR,AREO*

    NO
    The product does not automatically attempt a REORG if the
    object is in one of these states: AREOR,AREO*

    The following two CM batch parameters have been added.

    Auto REBUILD (adbtep2_autorebuild parameter)
    The adbtep2_autorebuild parameter specifies whether the product,
    when a change is run, should initiate a REBUILD when an object
    is in certain rebuild pending states. For the complete
    description and list of values see 'Chapter 15. Using the
    Batch Restart programs: ADBTEP2 and ADBTEPA' in the DB2
    Administration Tool User's Guide.

    Values: YES, NO
    Default: YES

    YES
    The product automatically attempts a REBUILD if the object is
    in one of these states: RBDP,RBDP*,PSRBD

    NO
    The product does not automatically attempt a REBUILD if the
    object is in one of these states: RBDP,RBDP*,PSRBD

    Auto REORG (adbtep2_autoreorg parameter)
    The adbtep2_autoreorg parameter specifies whether the product,
    when a change is run, should initiate a REORG when an object
    is in certain reorg pending states. For the complete
    description and list of values see 'Chapter 15. Using the
    Batch Restart programs: ADBTEP2 and ADBTEPA' in the DB2
    Administration Tool User's Guide.

    Values: YES, NO
    Default: YES

    YES
    The product automatically attempts a REORG if the object is
    in the REORP state.

    NO
    The product does not automatically attempt a REORG if the
    object is in the REORP state.
