Error description

  • IMS PI sets an ESTAE exit in ALZBRMIO to catch errors when input
    files are OPENed. However, it is also possible to drive this
    ESTAE routine if a GETMAIN storage request abends.
    Once invoked in this manner,  the ESTAE recovery routine gets an
    ABENDS0C4 abend which re-drives the ESTAE again creating an
    indefinite loop..

Problem conclusion

  • Ensure that the ESTAE routine is only invoked for file OPEN
    errors.
