APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • During normal termination, CM Resource Manager will not properly
account for all normal thread termination, resulting in a U4038.

    Additional symptom:

CEE0250S An unrecognized label variable was detected. The stack
frame address could not be associated with an active stack
    frame.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When terminating a resource manager *
    * running under the IBM HTTP Server, *
    * itself running under the WLM configured *
    * in scalable mode, users will see a user *
    * abend U4038. This abend is taken after *
    * shutdown and does not affect *
    * functionality nor reliability. It does, *
    * however, cause a delay until the abend *
    * is taken, and it causes the system to *
    * capture the abend itself. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY CORRECTIVE SERVICE *
    ****************************************************************
The resource manager was interfering with the termination
signals used by WLM to communicate its address spaces to shut
down. Unable to communicate with its address spaces, the WLM
eventually terminates them and issues the user abend U4038. This
only happens during the shutdown of a resource manager which is
running as a scalable WLM application: it does not happen if not
in scalable mode, and it does not happen during normal operation
    of a resource manager.

Problem conclusion

  • Content Manager on z/OS resource manager was modified to no
longer interfere with the specific signals used by WLM to
communicate its address spaces to shut down.
