APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The Batchpipes product can experience unexpected results or
message ASFP327I if an improper calculation is done on the
BLKSIZE that could lead to a mismatch on ends of a pipe.
Batchpipes was designed to accomodate a BLKSIZE upto 32K,
but would optimize that upto 64K for cross-system pipes for
thruput reasons, but was done internally ONLY.

Local fix

  • Code a BLKSIZE of 32K or smaller.

    *                      OPEN processing in DFSMS (IEC150I).     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
BatchPipes uses an internal return code value of '152' to signal
to DFSMS OPEN processing that there was an error during its OPEN
processing. Until DFSMS (release HDZ11H0) the user of that
internal return code resulted in an error being reported by OPEN
processing ABEND S013-C0 but changes to the processing for that
release now have that return code being reported as a USS File
Security error and signalled as an ABENDS913-74.

Problem conclusion

  • BatchPipes OPEN processing will change the internal return
codes that are used to report errors such that they are
    signalled again by an ABENDS013-C0.

Temporary fix

Comments

  • The ONLY change is the value of the internal return codes that
are used by BatchPipes OPEN processing and the external change
is the resulting (existing) ABENDS013-C0 which will signal most
    of the errors.
    .
The errors and internal codes being used are now:

     - Mismatched DCB parms....RC = 160 ABEND = 013-C0
       (LRECL, BLKSIZE, RECFM, etc)

     - Internal/unexpected error ... RC = 188 ABEND = 013-C0

     - WRITER Connection error ... RC = 192 ABEND = 013-C0
       (BatchPipes not available)

     - READER Connection error ... RC = 96 ABEND = 013-C0
       (BatchPipes not available)

     - BatchPipes Authority Issue .... RC = 152 ABEND = 913-74
(Security access to BatchPipes FACILITY classes)

     - Pipes connection already open ... RC = 4 ABEND = 013-C0
       (Application error)

NOTE: ALL these errors are accompanied by BatchPipes issued
error messages (with ASFP prefix) to the job log which are
to be used to further diagnose the problem being reported.
