Error description
A system has the SNMP SubAgent for the TCPIP stack fully enabled; SACONFIG ENABLED is coded in the TCPIP PROFILE (or left on by default) and an SNMP Agent (OSNMPD) is active. If the system has been up for more than 9 months, time tags used within the SNMP protocol (100ths of a second) will be larger than 2**31 - 1. The potential exists for various SNMP queries (and trap conditions, such as an interface changing state) to get a Divide Exception (program interrupt code 0009) when calculating the associated time tags which will be reported as a U4087 ABEND in TCPIP. . Other Symptoms: U4039 abend The Language Environment runtime may report any of several routines (such as sd_get_ifEntry) as being the responsible program. Examination of the PSW location will be at offset +0001A2 in EZBIESTM, and the reported routine will be the caller. The combination of lower 32 bits of registers 14 and 15 concatenated together to form a 64 bit value will be larger than 00001387 FFFFD8F0. After the ABEND, the SNMP SubAgent will restart and issue the following message: EZZ3202I SNMP SUBAGENT: INITIALIZATION COMPLETE
Local fix
If SNMP is enabled for TCPIP, then schedule a regular recycle of the stack sometime before nine months has elapsed.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the IBM Communications Server * * for z/OS Version 1 Release(s) 11, 12, and * * 13 IP: SNMP * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: TCPIP abend U4087 following divide * * exception in module EZBIESTM * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** A TCPIP stack was configured with the SNMP SubAgent fully enabled and an SNMP Agent (OSNMPD) was active. The TCPIP stack had been running without recycle for over 9 months. An ABEND0C9 in the TCPIP stack occurred when module EZBIESTM was called to compute a time delta (in hundredths of a second) and the quotient was too large after the DR assembler instruction (x'1DE1'). The TCPIP address space took a 4087 abend dump. +-------------------------------------------------------------+ + Please check our Communications Server for OS/390 homepages + + for common networking tips and fixes. Problem conclusion
Temporary fix
Comments
Module EZBIESTM has been amended to correct a divide exception when calculating a large time delta during SNMP processing.
