Error description

  • SPOOLOPEN REPORT ASA/MCC/NOCC limits the length of a line to
205 bytes. This is restrictive for PSF printers, and the
LINELENGTH value has been increased to a maximum of 32759. When
a LINELENGTH of 206 or larger is used, the page formatting
options are not allowed, which means that LINES(0) is required
and HEAD, FOOT, DATETIME, HEADNUM, FOOTNUM and BOTHNUM are not
allowed to be used at the same time. Using incorrect options
will result in a RESP value of ILLOGIC with a RESP2 value of 11
    or 19.

    This fulfills customer requirement MR1114113031.

This APAR enhances SPOOLOPEN REPORT ASA, MCC and NOCC to use
a larger LINELENGTH to a maximum of 32,759 bytes instead of 205.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS has been changed to allow a LINELENGTH of a maximum of
32,759 to be used with SPOOLOPEN REPORT ASA, MCC and NOCC.

The CICS Transaction Server for VSE/ESA Application Programming
Reference SC33-1658-04 has been changed to document this
enhancement to SPOOLOPEN REPORT(ASA, MCC or NOCC). The command
is described on pages 310 to 314.

The change is to allow print lines of a maximum size of 32,759
bytes instead of 205 bytes. It is designed to help customers
that wish to use CICS to produce reports that can processed for
output to PSF printers, and hence require a print line that is
longer than is normally used. These reports would not be
processed by the Report Controller transactions CEMS and CEOS.

The change does not permit the use of any of the page formatting
options such as HEAD, all page formatting must be done by the
user when processing the output report based on the content of
    the data.

    Page 310:

    BOTHNUM
BOTHNUM is not valid if LINELENGTH > 205.

    Page 311:

    DATETIME
DATETIME is not valid if LINELENGTH > 205.

    FOOT
FOOT is not valid if LINELENGTH > 205.

    FOOTNUM
FOOTNUM is not valid if LINELENGTH > 205.

    HEAD
HEAD is not valid if LINELENGTH > 205.

    HEADNUM
HEADNUM is not valid if LINELENGTH > 205.

    LINELENGTH(data-value)
specifies the length (signed halfword binary) of each line
of the report. This value is specified in SPOOLOPEN
REPORT and remains fixed for the entire life of the
report. The valid range is 1-32,759 characters.

When LINELENGTH > 205, none of the page formatting options
BOTHNUM, DATETIME, FOOT, FOOTNUM, HEAD and HEADNUM are
allowed and LINES(0) must be specified at the same time.

    Page 312:

    LINES(data-value)
LINES(0) must be specified if LINELENGTH > 205.
