PM54690: CCRC Compare/Merge error 'The object being compared contains line(s) exceeding 8000 bytes' on _xml2 typed files

APAR status

Error description

  • IBM Rational ClearCase Remote Client (CCRC) reports the error
    'The object being compared contains line(s) exceeding 8000
    bytes' when comparing or merging an XML file containing more
    than 8000 characters in a single line.
    
    This only occurs when using the ClearCase Integrated (UTF8)
    Compare/Merge tool; the ClearCase External Compare/Merge tool
    behaves as expected.
    
    Steps to reproduce the issue:
    
    1) Create a file test.xml and add to source control, ensuring
    the element type is 'xml' set to use type manager '_xml2'.
    
    2) Checkout the file, input valid XML, check the file in.
    
    3) Checkout the file again, input at least one valid XML line
    consisting of over 8000 characters, check the file in.
    
    4) In CCRC,  set the Compare/Merge tool to 'ClearCase
    Integrated' from Windows ? Preferences ? IBM Rational ClearTeam
    ? Integration ? Compare/Merge ? 'Use this tool as the default'.
    
    5) Attempt to compare the latest version of test.xml with
    predecessor.
    
    
    WORKAROUND:
    
    Use the 'ClearCase External' Compare/Merge utility in CCRC.
