Error description
ABEND04E RC00E20003 DSNXECT DSNSVBK +05EE storage leak may occur when executing SELECT FROM UPDATE SQL statements
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 9 for z/OS and DB2 10 for z/OS users * * of SELECT FROM UPDATE sql statements. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A storage leak containing DB2 uproc * * control blocks having an eyecatcher of * * UZB can occur for long-running threads * * that run SELECT FROM UPDATE sql * * statements. Once the storage pool is * * exhausted, an ABEND04E rc00E20003 can * * occur at location DSNGEPLC.DSNSVBK * * +05EE or OFFSET05EE. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Excessive storage growth occurs in the DB2 DBM1 address space for long-running threads that run SELECT FROM UPDATE sql statements. The storage growth (or storage leak) contains DB2 uproc control blocks that have an eyecatcher of UZB. These can occur on behalf of long-running threads that run SELECT FROM UPDATE sql statements. This can eventually lead to a local storage shortage in which the maximum storage for an agent local pool is exceeded. The pool can then become unavailable for further storage allocation. The UZB blocks remain resident because they are not properly freed at statement clean up time. Once the storage pool is exhausted, an ABEND04E rc00E20003 can occur at location DSNGEPLC.DSNSVBK +05EE or OFFSET05EE.
Problem conclusion
The code in DB2 has been modified to free the uproc control blocks (that have a UZB eyecatcher) that are created on behalf of SELECT FROM UPDATE statements. This will prevent the storage leak from occurring. Also, please note that this apar will require apar PM51933 (v9 ptf UK74770, v10 ptf UK74769) to provide the complete solution.
