PM52737: VARIABLE NAMES ARE REPLACED WHEN AN EXCEL XLSX FILE IS IMPORTED AND WHEN THE EXCEL FILE CONTAINS A BLANK VARIABLE NAME

Error description

• You work with IBM SPSS Statistics 20 and import an Excel
  2007/2010 XLSX file. In the Excel file you have variable names
  in the first row but one or more of the variable names are
  empty. For example you see variable names as below but the
  second name is empty in the Excel file:
  
  id  <blank name> gender age value
  
  When you export this file into Statistics 20 you notice that all
  variable names after the blank variable names are replaced where
  you expected to have only the blank name replaced.
  
  id v2 v3 v4 v5
  
  This was reported to IBM SPSS Development. As a workaround save
  your Excel file as Excel 2003 XLS format and import this file
  into Statistics or replace the blank names in Excel with valid
  names first.
  
  When you import the XLS file you would get:
  id v2 gender age value
