Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the DB2 Administration Tool for *
    * z/OS who use the Migrate (MIG) function *
    * to migrate objects using a user defined *
    * PUNCHDDN template which contains the *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS *
    *                      MIG function generates a PUNCHDDN       *
    * which resolves the symbolic variable *
    * &SN to the string SN instead of the *
    * expected table space name when using *
    *                      a user defined PUNCHDDN template.       *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS MIG function generates a
PUNCHDDN which resolves the symbolic variable &SN to the string
SN instead of the expected table space name when using a user
    defined PUNCHDDN template.

Problem conclusion

  • The program has been modified to resolve the symbolic variable
&SN to the table space name for a user defined PUNCHDDN
template. The DB2 Administration Tool User's Guide has also
been updated to reflect this change.

    Additionally,

Chapter 11 - 'Using LISTDEFs and TEMPLATEs in the DB2
Administration Tool User's Guide describes how PUNCHDDN is
handled. The paragraph description is only for the Work
Statement List (WSL) path. However, it should be also
applied to the JCL path. The DB2 Administration Tool
User's Guide has been updated to add the description
    for the JCL path.

When users use a GDG attribute (+1) to define the
templates PUNCHDDN, MICTLOV or MICTLOU for DB2 Unload,
the template MICTLIU, MIDTVNP or MICTLOU for HPU Unload,
and then use them in MIG, the MIG JCL will result in a
JCL ERROR due to the non-existence of the GDG base for
these template DD statements. In this case, a confirmation
panel ADB2CONF 'Warning ON Template Usage' will be
displayed to show the following warning messages:

The warning message for DB2 Unload in MIG:
The GDG base of the data set defined in template PUNCHDDN,
MICTLOV or MICTLOU does not exist. Migrate job will fail due
to a JCL ERROR after submitting.

The warning message for HPU Unload in MIG:
The GDG base of the data set defined in template
MICTLIU, MIDTVNP or MICTLOU does not exist. Migrate job will
fail due to a JCL ERROR after submitting.

On panel ADB2CONF, users can choose CONTINUE to
generate MIG jobs and then define the GDG base for
above templates DD statements before submitting the
JCL to avoid a JCL ERROR. Users can also choose
CANCEL to stop generating MIG jobs and go back to
    panel ADB28M 'Migrate Parameters'.

In the DB2 Administration Tool Version 10.1 and
Version 7.2 User's Guide Chapter 11 'Using LISTDEFs
and TEMPLATEs', the section named 'Substitution
variables in utility templates for PUNCHDDN when
using a WSL' has been changed to 'Substitution
variables in utility templates for PUNCHDDN' to describe
how PUNCHDDN is handled both for the WSL and JCL
path. Under this section, replacement value for symbolic
variable &SN used in template PUNCHDDN has also
been changed from 'SN' to 'The table space'.
