APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The looping through the storage manager routine IPI4QMGR is due
to a storage request that cannot be satisfied as it has hit VS
high-water mark and no transactions are being flushed.
    The loop shows at offsets x'37a', x'39a', x'39e', x'3a2, x'3a6'.

When IMS PA hits VS high-water it must flush incomplete
transactions thereby freeing storage to create new transaction
entries. If the transactions consist of a single program-switch
chain this is flushed only when the switch count wraps (64k). In
an environment in which storage is constrained the switch count
will not reach the wrap point, hence no flushing occurs.

Local fix

  • A possible local fix is to set the region= parm on the JOB EXEC
statement to 0M as REGION=0M. If this is successful or not may
depend on your system storage configuration.

Problem conclusion

  • At VS high-water mark processing flush program switch
chain irrespective of the switch count.
