Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V8.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When PMI counter activeCount is * * enabled at runtime in some scenerios * * the activeCount shows negative Values * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Whenever the activeCount PMI counter is enabled after server startup, in some scenerios the active count shows negative values. This is due to the fact that active count was not getting tracked until it was enabled. The trigger to update the active count will be fired by the thread pool. So once the server starts up, the thread pool notifies PMI for updates of the activeCount. Since activeCounter is not enabled the update does not happen. Ater some time when the activeCount is enabled, then it starts updating the counter based on the triggers recieved by the threadPool. So in some scenerios when the thread pool requests to reduce the counter and at the same time activeCount is enabled, it gets reduced and moves into negative values.
Problem conclusion
The reported problem has been fixed by making sure that the activeCount datatype is properly tracked irrespective of when it was enabled. This makes sure that the negative values are avoided. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.0.0.2.
