Error description

  • Headline:
Content of .ccexclude files created by ClearCase integration
with Visual Studio differs between Windows 7 and Windows XP

    APAR description:

When IBM Rational ClearCase is integrated with Microsoft Visual
Studio, the format for .ccexclude files differs between Windows
    7/2008/Vista and Windows XP/2003.

    - On Windows 7/2008/Vista, the file contents will contain
    relative paths (such as .\testfile.txt).

    - On Windows XP/2003, the file contents will contain absolute
    paths (such as \testfile.txt).

When working in an environment that accesses the same projects
using these different Windows operating systems, this forces
automatic checkouts and checkins of all .ccexclude files. This
may cause noticeable delays for the end-user if the number of
.ccexclude files under a solution is large. It also
unnecessarily creates new versions, and subsequently creates
unwanted changesets in a UCM environment.

    Steps to reproduce the issue:

    1) On a Windows XP system, create a new project within Visual
    Studio integrated with ClearCase.

    2) Add the solution to source control.

    3) Create a new view-private file. Choose to exclude the file
    from source control.

    4) Checkin the solution and exit Visual Studio.

    5) Outside of Visual Studio, inspect the contents of the
project's .ccexclude file: note the relative pathing.

    6) Open the same solution from a Windows 7 machine.

    7) Close Visual Studio.

    8) Outside of Visual Studio, inspect the contents of the
project's .ccexclude file: note the absolute pathing.

    WORKAROUND:

    - Avoid alternating between Windows XP and Windows 7

    - Rmver unwanted .ccexclude file versions
