Error description
ABEND878 RC14 running ANALYZE upon a very large Area. The ABENDS878 is caused by R9 having a negative value on the GETMAIN being attempted. It seems to fail after the ANALYZE for the area is complete, however no report comes out. Another symptom is an HPFP ABEND3006. Additional issue addressed: ABEND0C7 in HFPA5T20 processing large AREA with ANALYZE command. Keywords: S878 S0C7 ABENDS0C7 This is a forward fit of IMS High Performance Fast Path Utilities V320 APAR PM20699.

**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of HPFPU Fast Path Advanced Tools * * and Fast Path Online Tools in Fast Path * * Solution Pack Version 1 Release 1 * * (FMID: HAHQ110). * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: First two items are Forward Fit APAR of * * HPFPU V3R2 FPA PM20699. * * 1.ABENDS878 RC14 running HFPA5XT0 due * * to a huge DEDB record in the user * * DEDB area. HFPA5XT0 could not handle * * such a large record, therefore the * * routine will be adjusted to handle * * larger records. * * 2.ABENDS0C7 occurred when the total * * number of "IOVF used CI" was * * 6 digits. * * 3.When Indexbld function builds a HISAM * * secondary index database, a delete * * byte field in a pointer segment in * * ESDS overflow dataset can be not * * cleared correctly. * * 4.When Analyze function verifies the * * secondary index databases, the * * pointer segment that is not deleted * * can be treated as the deleted * * pointer segment. * * 5.ODE ends the job step when an error * * is encountered though * * PROC_AFT_ERROR=NEXTAREA is specified * * in FPXIN after applying APAR PM17825. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the maintenance for this APAR. * **************************************************************** First two items are Forward Fit APAR of HPFPU V3R2 FPA PM20699. 1.FPA ANALYZE stacks CI RBA information in the internal table. When all entries of the table consumed, then the table will be expanded by GETMAINing extended table. The GETMAIN failed with S878 system code due to the negative value of storage size to be obtained. 2.FPA ANALYZE(HFPA5T20) got the system exception when it calculates the standard deviation of the total number of IOVF used CI. This abend0C7 occurs when the total number of "IOVF used CI" and the total number of "DOVF used CI" are greater than 100000. 3.When Indexbld function builds a HISAM secondary index database, a delete byte field in a pointer segment in ESDS overflow dataset can be not cleared correctly. The pointer segment that has just been inserted by Indexbld function can be treated as the deleted pointer segment. 4.When Analyze function verifies the secondary index databases, the pointer segment that is not deleted can be treated as the deleted pointer segment. Then Analyze function can show that the pointer segment is not found. 5.ODE(Online Data Extract utility) ends the job step when an area-specific error is encountered though PROC_AFT_ERROR=NEXTAREA is specified in FPXIN after applying APAR PM17825.
Problem conclusion
1.The internal table will be extended every time when all entries of the table consumed. The total number of entries is saved in the half word field so that the number can be up to 32,767 represented by half word signed binary. When the increased number is greater than 32,767, then half word overflow condition happens and the obtained value form the half word field come to be negative value. Thus GETMAIN failure with S878 happened. HFPA5XT0 has been modified from LH/STH to L/ST to load/store from/to full word field. 2.HFPA5T20 did not prepare the field to square the total number of "IOVF used CI"(PL5). It is modified to use the field defined with PL10 to square. 3.The delete byte field in the pointer segment has been cleared correctly. 4.The value to check whether a segment is deleted or not has been modified from X'80' to X'C0'. 5.FPXDTER0 has been modified to refer the valid internal block.
